| Résumé : |
T he chapters in. this booklet were preached as sermons to my own people, and in response to the urgent request of many, they are now published.
I consented to do this because I felt they might be of some service to a wider congregation than that which my voice reached; and because I also felt the great importance of the subject itself. My treatment of that subject here is of the most general kind, intended only to direct attention to the theme, in order to stir up interest and lead to study. The title indicates the Biblical conception, as I understand it, of what the second advent of our Lord will be. We are not looking for the Star in the East, but for the “Sun of Righteousness” to arise “with healing in His wings” ; for “the day that bumeth as a furnace.” Since the Day-star appeared two millenniums have well-nigh run their course, and in the Church’s weariness she has often said, “The Lord delayeth His coming”; instead of accounting “that the long-suffering of our Lord is salvation.” In the hearts of many the Day-star is already shining, and this in itself is a witness to Sunrise.
