The various figures of the sixteenth-century Radical Reformation evoke more interest today than ever. There is a gap, however, between the conclusions of research and the public image of these “revolutionaries.”
In this book European and North American historians capture the broad spectrum of the “wild fluorescence of the Reformation” in twenty-one biographical sketches. Beginning with Thomas Müntzer, they include leaders and ideologues of the Peasants’ War, peaceful and revolutionary Anabaptists, as well as the Spiritualists and Paracelsus. Thus is created a colorful panorama of a time which, in many of its facets, resembles the present. |
