The addresses contained herein were delivered at the sixth international congress of the International Association for Reformed Faith and Action in Nottingham, England from July 24-31,1968. […]
The gospel and education are related to each other as the light of God is related to the task of man: God's gospel light should direct man's education. When education and the gospel are rightly joined then Christian Education ensues. The addresses found in this Bulletin stress primarily two things: (I) Christian education must be up-to-date and (2) Christian education has many forms. The up-to-dateness of education is indicated in the opening address of Dr. Jan Dengerink who deftly characterized the mind of modem youth to whom instruction must be given. It is also evident in the address on the Christian school in secular society. That society is secular, (i.e., eager to go it alone, without God,) is not just a fond idea of the few but bitter reality for all. In this age and society Christians are called to engage in education that beams the light of the gospel upon all nurture and instruction. Education is a many splendored thing. It cannot be limited to any one age bracket or to any one zone of life. The addresses of this volume relate education to the school, the home, the mission field, and to the church. In every sphere the love and lordship of Jesus Christ must be displayed. May the reading of this volume on Education and the Gospel contribute substantially to the coming of Christ's Kingdom in this secular age. |
