MBI: The Story of Moody Bible Institute was born when a young faculty member chose to do his doctoral dissertation on “the history of Moody Bible Institute and its contributions to evangelical education.”
Author Gene Getz unearthed, organized, and reported eighty years of Institute history. His work provided the first authoritative account of the school founded by D. L. Moody in the late 1800s. Two decades have passed since the publication of that account. Statistics have changed, the growth has necessitated new personnel and facilities. It is appropriate then that, as part of the centennial celebration of Moody Bible Institute, faculty member James Vincent has revised and updated this valuable resource. D. L. Moody laid the groundwork for the school when he said, “I believe we have got to have gap men—men to stand between the laity and the ministers.” That groundwork has stood strong for a century.
