How CAN TEACHING BE IMPROVED in Sunday schools across the country? What continuing help can be given the volunteer worker to improve his technique and comprehension? Dr. Edge believes that the weekly officers and teachers’ meeting offers a natural in-service training opportunity for this host of invaluable workers.
His book is divided into two major sections. The first, entitled “Helping the Teacher Plan a Lesson,” reviews basic principles such as statement of aim and development of activities for its achievement. The second section, “Helping the Teacher Use a Variety of Methods,” underscores the real need for variety and gives guidance in using eight methods, such as question and answer, discussion, role playing, and visual aids. Although Dr. Edge does not believe that mastery of method alone will insure good teaching, he knows that most teachers need help at that point. His book is organized to encourage them to learn by doing. Pastors, ministers of education, Sunday school superintendents, and teachers can find real help here for week-by-week improvement of teaching. |
