Résumé : |
Christian teachers fail most often in their work because their teaching aims are not sufficiently specific. Aims that are general or vague prevent the pupil from seeing the relevance of the “lesson" to his own experience.
In this thorough treatment of the art of teaching, Dr. Edge stresses the importance of definite teaching goals, particularly the conduct goal. Christian teaching cannot be complete without Christian action. Arguing that the approach to this must come about by a clear understanding of pupil needs, the author sets up some basic principles to guide the teacher and gives illustrations and examples of each. Purposefid Bible study and securing "carry-over” from class to actual life through life-centered lesson plans are emphasized. A chapter on methods of testing shows how to determine the effectiveness of teaching techniques. Although planned primarily as a seminary or college text, this book provides an approach and procedures that will be tremendously helpful to ministers, teachers, and others who have responsibility for teacher training in the church. |
