Résumé : |
Church music, according to the author, is “a musical style, an organization, an opportunity for participation, a profession, a ministry, a source of attraction and a means of inspiration, all placed together to create a fascinating but complex form of art.”
An Introduction to Church Music treats all phases of this important and fascinating subject, dealing specifically with music in church services, in evangelism, on the foreign field and as a' tool of Christian education. Special emphasis is placed upon the ministry of music as it relates to the organist, pianist, choir director, song leader, pastor, and director of Christian education. The music program is presented in the framework of general organization, showing the importance of graded choirs, instrumental groups, music training classes, music committees, and officers of the various musical groups. The physical needs of the church music program are also covered, including the equipment necessary, acoustical problems, and church architecture as they relate to the installation of an organ, preparation of a choir loft and rehearsal rooms. These factors are discussed with both the large and small church in mind. An Introduction to Church Music has been prepared to be of major help to all who are involved in supervising the music of the church, or who are preparing for this kind 'of Christian service. The material will help equally in the organizing of a new music program or in the improvement of an already existing work. The presentation is thoroughly practical, for Mr. Wilson brings to his task years of personal experience in the field he discusses, plus teaching experience in Christian colleges and Bible schools. He is now Director of the Music Department. Marion College, Marion, Indiana, and Minister of Music at the college church. |
