Résumé : |
This book gives a thorough survey and critical assessment of recent research into the origins of Gnosticism. Was it a pre-Christian phenomenon, directly or indirectly influencing early Christianity, as some scholars—notably Reitzenstein and Bultmann—have argued ? Or was it, as the Church Fathers thought, a Christian heresy ?
The discovery and publication of Qumran, Mandaic and Coptic texts has thrown new light on Gnostic thought and its relation to Christianity. Dr Yamauchi gives a brief history of the research into Gnosticism and examines the evidence and the methods used by those who support the thesis of pre-Christian Gnosticism and who interpret the New Testament on this basis. |
