Two Middle Eastern men walking hopelessly along the road, talking about a crucifixion which seemed to contradict the justice and sovereignty of God himself.
The environment, their facial features, and even their clothing are remarkably similar to those of many Muslim people in current times. They have turned their backs on Jerusalem. They see Jesus as a "prophet mighty in deed and word" but cannot reconcile his messiahship with his execution as a common criminal. They are "slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken". But Jesus brings to the two men from Emmaus new light, and truth and enthusiasm. The conversation on the road puts the pieces of the puzzle back together. The two sons of Abraham are restored to the faith. This revealing encounter with Jesus Christ lends itself as a natiffal vehicle for reflection on crucial issues in witness to Muslims. It is the framework Dr. J. Dudley Woodberry has tellingly constructed for this book. Through it, may many come to know the Unrecognized Companion. |
