Résumé : |
Many today are disillusioned with a world in which they are no more than cogs in a machine. Scientists themselves fear the implications of their research. Many are looking away from rational answers or opting out of a technological society in their search for meaning.
Denis Alexander (ba Oxford, phd London) has been engaged in research on the biochemistry of nerve structures, first at the Institute of Psychiatry, London and now in a developing country. His concern in this book is not just to analyse the problem, but to look at the various answers being proposed. In seeking a way through, the author tackles such issues as genetic engineering, man as a naked ape in a human zoo, the answers of the scientists, the philosophers, the new left and the mystics. He then shows with urgency and conviction the solution which an increasing number of younger scientists and others have re-discovered: the Christian theism which restores a basis to science and the Christian gospel which alone can restore a true humanity to man. |
