Foreword
Most ministers of the Word discover sooner or later that there is no subject with a greater appeal to God’s people than that of the Master Himself, and therein lies the principal—and perhaps the only— justification for the publication of this little volume. The chapters that follow represent articles and addresses given on various occasions at widely different places—some brief talks to a handful of people, others to a large company. They are not intimately connected with each other, nor do they constitute a series of expositions: indeed, exposition, meditation, and exhortation will be found strangely intermingled. They are simply a collection of talks on different aspects of the Lord Himself. From a literary point of view, there are many imperfections in this book, and the elementary rules of a definite plan and a uniform style of writing are honored in the breach rather than in the observance; but if these pages reveal even dimly some of the glories of our blessed Lord, the human imperfections will probably fade into oblivion. |
