Robert Letham uses traditional models in expounding the work of Christ as Prophet, Priest and King. This approach has the merit of relating Jesus both to his Jewish roots and to the redemptive history which preceded the incarnation.
Dr Letham recognizes, however, that there are other fruitful approaches to the work of Christ. So a chapter each is devoted to the synoptic theme of the kingdom of God and to the Pauline idea of union with Christ. The cosmic and corporate dimensions of the work of Christ as the creator, director and goal of the universe and as the Saviour of the church are also explored. Although he concentrates upon biblical teaching, Dr Letham does not neglect the Christian tradition’s rich reflection upon the work of Christ or the writings of contemporary theologians. |
