| Résumé : |
In this little book we have sought to conserve and to present to the reader some of the distilled spiritual experiences and counsels of Hudson Taylor.
For many years we have had frequent occasion to delve among the early records of the China Inland Mission and to feel their tonic influence. More recently, when writing Hudson Taylor: the Man who believed God, we felt again the value of Hudson Taylor’s devotional articles, articles written out of his own costly and in-wrought experience. These bear all the stamp of life, and reveal, not in theory but in practice, the principles upon which he founded his work. As it seemed unpardonable to leave these treasures permanently buried in publications long out of print, the Centenary of Hudson Taylor’s birth appeared a fitting opportunity to republish a selection in a more permanent guise. And amongst these we have included fifteen meditations, culled from some unpublished personal letters. At the same time, it has been thought better to break these articles up into short daily meditations, rather than reprint them en masse and unrelated to the occasions which called them forth. We believe the course adopted, though it has had its difficulties and its losses, will justify itself. Great traditions and great truths are not inherited automatically. The rich experiences of another cannot be easily transferred or appropriated; they must be learned in life’s school. For this reason, we believe, a series of short readings suitable for daily meditation over a somewhat prolonged period will be more helpful than a book which can be skimmed in a few hours. - MARSHALL BROOMHALL |
