| Résumé : |
Why family prayers? ‘We just never sit down together.’ ‘Life’s hectic; the day’s one mad rush.’ ‘It’s bad enough getting the children off to school in the mornings as it is without trying to fit in family prayers.’ ‘In the evening there’s always a TV programme someone wants to see; you just can’t keep them sitting at the table.’ You can probably add to the list of difficulties that arise when it comes to arranging family prayers! Is it because they are so essential that we seem to run into so many snags?
It certainly will not always be easy, but we believe that for most of us it is possible to get together for five minutes or so every day. To read God’s Word, to think about it, and to pray as a family group is a united act of worship through which the Christian home is definitely enriched. Perhaps, as individuals, you already read other Scripture Union portions; with Family Prayers you can share together your common allegiance to Christ. Family Prayers tries to be meaningful to the whole family. While it is impossible in this series to produce readings which will involve the very little ones or to incorporate everyone every day, our writers have sought constantly to keep in mind the wide range of family life. Each Sunday’s comment ends with a ‘Sunday Adventure’ —a special activity which you may have time to complete after breakfast or during the evening. Sometimes written answers are required, and for these several blank pages are reserved at the end of the book. Our three note-writers—and their families—are introduced to you on the back cover of this volume. Their varied experiences of life—the world of work, family joys and sorrows, the rough and tumble of all that goes to make ‘home’—add a ring of authenticity to what they have to say. |
