| Résumé : | Another book of daily readings? Yes, and why not? It may be that this one, like the others, will have its own distinctive usefulness to at least some readers. We do not expect for a moment that it will sell in hundreds of thousands; yet if it only exhausts its first edition of several thousands its ministry even within those limits will make its publication worth while. Besides, as so often happens with such books, in an indirect way its contents and influence may seep through to a far larger number than its actual readers. Again, it is to the point just to mention here that this book of daily readings really is a variant from others of its species. Its daily instalments are decidedly longer. That is because, in general, they are not only devotional, but expository and homiletical so far as space allows. Moreover, each article is one complete study-in-brief, or else one member in a pair or trio or quartette of such studies, and not merely a few devotional thoughts dovetailed together as in many other useful books of briefer daily readings. Well, here it is, dear reader ; with the prayer that our gracious Lord may deign to use it to your profit and for His own honour. J.S.B. |
