These Evening Supplications are not suggested as forms of prayer, although they may possibly on occasion be made use of for that purpose.
If writing in a book what God says to us, in his word, has its value, so also has committing to writing what we say to God, in prayer. Too many prayers are forgotten long before they are answered, and it is of those who treat prayer thus lightly it is said, let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord. It is as a corrective to this habit of mind, that the writer has been led to adopt the practise of committing to writing his Evening Supplications, as he has his Morning Reflections, and they are now printed, in the hope that others may do so also. |
