| Résumé : | This is a book about a book, the holy scripture of hundreds of millions of Muslims throughout the world. It approaches the Qur’an respectfully but not without questioning its origins and the manner in which it was collected. The first three chapters analyse not only its structure and teaching but also attempt to grasp the heart and soul of the text, in particular the impact it has on Muslim readers. The fourth chapter, however, critically evaluates the Qur’an’s claim to be divinely inspired in the light of its contents which often have parallels in pre-Islamic apocryphal literature. The last chapter assesses the manner in which the text was initially collected and standardised into its present form. |
