The fireplace — the structure of the church. Charles E. Hummel thus pictures the fire of charismatic renewal in the church today. First he views the renewal historically, including his personal acquaintance with it. Then he examines its biblical basis in Luke-Acts (highlighting Luke’s doctrine of the Spirit’s activity) and Paul’s teaching on the Spirit (focusing on 1 Corinthians 12—14). On this material the author bases his discussion of spiritual gifts today, baptism in the Spirit, prophecy, speaking in tongues and healing. |
