This book helps the reader to do two things: to grasp the message of each book of the Old Testament and then to relate it to the Old Testament as a whole.
The author follows the order of the Hebrew rather than the English Bible. Throughout, he relates the message of each individual book to the unfolding history of Israel, since he believes that Israel’s faith came to her progressively and through history. Dr Dumbrell’s approach to the reading of the Old Testament encourages us to see the Old Testament as a unity, yet it allows each book to make its own distinctive theological contribution. |
