Résumé : |
"The uniqueness of the twentieth century," the author writes, "lies not in the universe that faces man, but in the man who faces the universe. For the first time man faces his problems alone in the universe—all alone." Denying the existence of God, or at least His relevance, humanity has opened itself to alienation, and alienation has led to despair.
After discussing the thoughts of Kierkegaard, the father of existentialism, Dr. Evans surveys the writings of such philosophers as Dostoevsky, Marcel, Camus, and Sartre, some of whom have concluded that despair is the only honest response to the human condition. The author offers an alternative response that meets three important philosophical criteria and is a valid and satisfying world and life view. |
