Dear Reader,
You followed us through twelve years of life in With Love, Edith: The L’Abri Family Letters 1948-1960. Now prepare to walk through twenty-six years in Dear Family: The L’Abri Family Letters 1961-1986.... L’Abri set forth years ago to try to show forth the existence of God by attempting (in our weakness and our proneness to imperfection in all areas) to live by faith as well as attempting to give careful answers to honest questions as to the reality of the existence of God. . . . This continued series of Family Letters follows along regularly through those years. Many details have been carefully recorded . . . life, death, births, marriages, illnesses, accidents, answered prayers, disappointments. Each letter was written without knowing what the next would contain.... “How astounding it is that words can bring to us sights, smells, sounds, feelings, hopes, fears, excitement, and sorrow as if we were living in another part of the world, or in another period of history. What a truly exciting, as well as basic thing it is that we are ‘verbalizing creatures!’ If we could not relate happenings, tell stories, describe mountains and seas, snow storms and battles, quiet waters and green pastures, we would be limited to the immediate surroundings, and to the people our eyes could see. With much love, Edith |
