In a world ravaged by dehumanizing barbarism and torn by ideological conflict, writes Arthur Holmes, we have an obligation to rekindle and disseminate the Christian vision of a unified world view. But to live and think Christianly in today's world does not come easily. It means, says Holmes, "ferreting out the influence of non-Christian assumptions and bringing distinctively Christian presuppositions to bear in their place."
Contours of a World View, which introduces the series, sets the stage for this important task. Holmes discusses the nature of world views, both secular and Christian, and the overall contours of a distinctively Christian world view in relationship to the history of ideas as well as to the contemporary mind, outlining a Christian view of things as a live alternative to the naturalistic humanism prevalent today. |
