"What the eye sees” - that is the evidence of the eye-witness. But what the eye sees depends on what is there: hence the necessity of revelation. And revelation in the biblical sense is neither vague nor visionary - as the Apostle John insisted, it could be "seen" and "heard" and "handled" as a fact of human history, and pre-eminently in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
So "witness" and "revelelation" are two sides of the same coin, and in this book Dr. Boice shows how they come to full expression in the New Testament and especially in the writings of John who insisted that he bore witness only to things "seen and heard." |
