Following a phrase-by-phrase, often word-by-word, study of the text. Dr. Hiebert refers to grammatical matters only where these are crucial, adding historical background that illumines difficult passages. Although not dealing with the entire area of Marcan theology, Dr. Hiebert does present significant material on the major theological themes of Mark as they appear. An introduction is included to orient students to the purpose, date, and authorship of the gospel, as well as an extensive bibliography, leading the student to sources of information for further study. Footnotes have been provided throughout the book, giving careful documentation at crucial points of interpretation.
