Résumé : |
In this volume Dr. Richards discusses the theological concepts that form the content and underlie the method of Christian education. He presents in a warm-hearted and compelling way the biblical principles by which the education of children, youth, and older people in the church can become a vital process of growth and continual renewal. Emphasis is placed on a “whole-person focus” and the involvement of the entire church community.
“Part III is a restatement in summary of the whole book. Richards is a many faceted author, but he is first of all a good teacher. His summaries at the close of each chapter, his diagrams at the beginning of each chapter show the context of that portion so that the whole is kept constantly before the reader. Dr. Charles G. Schauffele, Professor of Christian Education, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, says: “ ‘This book is written as a theology of Christian Education not the theology of Christian Education. It is exploratory and is meant to be a seeâbed of ideas and new insights.’ In a welter of so-called Foundations of Christian Education, here is one based solidly on Scripture which backs up the claim to be Christian Education. Part I in ten chapters deals with the theological considerations concerning what the Church is and what the Church does. What it does is Christian Education. “The main body of the book is Part II, ‘Implementing Christian Education in the Local Church.’ The tasks of the Pastor are examined in this process in the first section. The child in the home as the real nurture center is the emphasis in the second section. Adult education is the subject of the third part and there are seven chapters devoted to this salient need. |
