Résumé : |
Violence against women occurs in every country, age group and part of society, but its extent has long been hidden by the power of the forces in which it is rooted. It takes overt form in domestic violence, sexual harassment, rape and sex tourism, and covert form in psychological and emotional demeaning of women.
Beyond the heart-rending stories of victims and sobering analysis of root causes, this book points to signs of hope as women and men in the church and elsewhere are beginning to struggle courageously against all forms of violence against women. The author ends by asking some pointed questions : Why is the church not a fore-runner in challenging all the forces that hold women ransom to a violent and ruthless world ? Why has the church in many instances condoned sexual harassment and even violence in its own institutional life ? Is the church ready to examine how its own structures of leadership and ministry may perpetuate the abuse of power and keep women in a state of insecurity and fear ? |
