“I, John, your brother and partaker with you in the tribulation and kingdom and patience which are in Jesus, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet saying, What thou seest write in a book.” We sometimes wish God would speak thus again, perhaps through a servant of His incarcerated in some twentieth-century prison cell, to grant us, in this day of heightened spiritual conflict, some new flash of divine light upon our road ahead.
Along with many other faithful servants of Jesus Christ in modern China, Nee To-sheng, or Watchman Nee as he likes to be called, is in fact so situated. But from such as he no recent writings are of course available, and this book contains none. It is derived once again from his earlier ministry of the Word in days when God was using him widely in that land for the salvation of souls and the building and spread of His Church and Kingdom. Yet we have no reason to believe that the author’s thoughts on this theme are any different now from the day when he wrote: “Jolin’s first vision was not of events but of Jesus Christ Himself. A knowledge of coming events will only stimulate our curiosity. Even Jolin the beloved disciple must first have a sight of his eternal Lord that shattered him to the dust. Only such a sight creates warriors. Not till we see Him thus are we equipped for conflict. For Christ is the answer to all our questions. Get clear first about Him, and we shall know all we need to know about ‘things to come’. He is the risen and victorious King of kings. All the ensuing events are the outcome of His being that.” Let us follow this lead as, day by day, we share the author’s meditations on the glories of Christ. If by them we can be fortified to meet the challenge of our times, then the human history which lies behind this book will not have been in vain. In addition to much fresh material from private sources, this collection includes some extracts from earlier published books and booklets.
