In 1984 Buddhists and Christians gathered in Hawaii for a conference entitled "Paradigm Shifts in Buddhism and Christianity." In the papers presented during the theological encounter the authors examined the Christian God (clearly understood as the Triune God of Christian experience rather than the “One” of the philosophers) and the Emptiness (Shunyata) of Mahayana Buddhism’s understanding of Reality. They then looked for comparisons, contrasts and resonances between such a God and such a Reality.
This book contains the three essays presented during the encounter and responses to each which were solicited by the editors. |
