Résumé : |
The question that underlies this study by Stephen Westerholm is simply this: “Why Paul?” Why is there so much academic interest in him? Why so many cross-disciplinary studies? Why, in a modern world pervaded with assumptions and discourse completely at odds with Paul, should this historic figure continue to be relevant to anyone today?
This “preface” to the study of Paul attempts to make the historical figure Paul and his ancient worldview intelligible to contemporary readers, then shows how Paul constructed his own Christian view of reality within the framework that his worldview provided. Westerholm’s argument broadly follows that of Paul in his letter to the Romans. Yet this book is not a commentary on the details of Paul’s letter. Rather, it represents an attempt to make comprehensible the major components of Paul’s vision of life as they are raised in his most important letter. |
