Résumé : | "The Many Faces of Christology" brings together doctrinal, historical, topical, and contemporary issues in the doctrine of Christ in one volume. Inbody covers not only the historical Jesus and the Christ of the creeds but also several types of christologies, including evangelical, liberal and postliberal, and feminist. He views Christ in the light of Judaism and christology in the light of world religions, taking a position he calls "confessional pluralism." In addition, Inbody faces head-on the contemporary stumbling blocks of an inherited Christology of substitutionary atonement that seems to glorify suffering and tolerate injustice, uncovers the modern experiential epistemology of evangelical theology, and takes seriously feminist critiques. Eminently teachable but also informative for a wide audience, this is a book that should serve the field and the church well for many years. |
