Résumé : |
Dr. Greg L. Bahnsen (1948-1995), a graduate of Westmont College and Westminster Theological Seminary, received his doctorate from the University of Southern California. He taught that in order to deal with the academics’ assaults on the Christian faith, it is necessary to do battle at the highest levels of scholarship using their own intellectual assumptions against them (Prov. 26:4-5), Over time, it became increasingly difficult to find anyone who would debate Dr. Bahnsen on worldview issues. After his formal debate with Dr. Gordon Stein in 1985, non-Christians began to realize that Dr. Bahnsen was the most formidable opponent they had ever faced. He could quickly analyze and give direct and compelling answers to any objection they raised.
Instead of beginning with the bits and pieces of a worldview (evidences for this or that doctrine, or this or that god), the starting point is more fixed and fundamental "Thus, when all is said and done," Dr. Bahnsen makes clear, "apologetics becomes the vindication of the Christian worldview as a whole, not simply a piecemeal defense of isolated, abstractly defined, religious points " It’s with this operating presupposition that Dr. Bahnsen called his students to “push the antithesis,” that is to force the unbeliever to live consistently with his rationalistic and materialistic presuppositions that underlie and seemingly support his worldview. It's this push that exposes the fault lines in non-Christian worldviews that begin with the supposed sovereignty of the creature rather than the Creator, which is the essence of the antithesis. As Dr. Bahnsen puts it, “Without the ingredient of antithesis, Christianity is not simply anemic; it has altogether forfeited its challenge to all other worldviews " Prior to his untimely death in 1995, Dr Bahnsen delivered a series of presentations on defending the Christian faith at American Vision's Life Preparation Conference These lectures are rare in that they are some of the only video presentations of Dr Bahnsen’s course material. The week-long sessions, presented before high school and college students, set forth the basics of the Christian worldview and the biblical approach to defending the faith They have been distilled and turned into this one-of-a kind handbook on apologetics. Pushing the Antithesis consists of twelve chapters that include study questions, an answer key, and a glossary of terms. If you want to be equipped to present the truth of the gospel in a compelling way, then Pushing the Antithesis is required reading. |
