At first sight the Jesus papyrus - a few verses in Greek from St. Matthew's Gospel - seems little more than three tiny pieces of old paper. Yet it is one of the most important documents in the world. The authors argue that this is the oldest known fragment of the new testament in book form. Not since the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls in 1947 has there been such an important - or controversial - breakthrough in our understanding of Christ's times on earth.
