Résumé : |
Charles G. Finney was born on August 29, 1792, in Connecticut. He was well educated and began the study of law at the age of twenty-six. It was at this time his spiritual experience began. It was three years later in the autumn of 1812 that the crisis came. The Holy Spirit had thoroughly convicted him of his sinfulness and guilt and he cried to God for mercy. Through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ he entered into peace with God and that evening he received a mighty baptism of the Holy Spirit.
From the day of his salvation Finney knew that he was called by God to be an evangelist. It was in that calling that he was most outstanding. All his life mighty revivals of religion broke forth under his ministry, even in his later years when he served as a pastor and as a theological professor. His experiences as an evangelist taught him that a deeper work of the Spirit—a blessing in addition to the initial work of salvation—was needed to enable Christians to live continually above the world and sin. This started him searching for the truth concerning sanctification. The result was that he found the Lord Jesus able to meet all his needs. This book is an outline of what he experienced and taught. It points out that union with Christ as a real living Saviour is the secret of a happy and victorious Christian life. |
