Résumé : |
Eschatology is a slippery word, and the developments of the past century have often served only to further the confusion. Stephen H. Travis sets out to clarify the issues and to delineate the options put forward in the current scholarly debate.
Focusing on the past twenty years, this survey and critique tackles the issues surrounding the parousia; the resurrection of the dead, immortality and the intermediate state; and God’s judgment and the future of humanity. Particular attention is given to our increased understanding of apocalyptic and its place in the discussion. Those whose views are taken up include Gerhard von Rad, P. D. Hanson, R. J. Bauckham, Ernst Käsemann, J. D. G. Dunn, Wolfhart Pannenberg, Jürgen Moltmann, Carl E. Braaten, Rudolf Bultmann, C. H. Dodd, J. A. T. Robinson, Oscar Cullmann, W. G. Kümmel, John Hick, Paul Badham and John Macquarrie. |
