Over a decade ago Kenneth Kantzer wrote, “Too often . . . Christians have allowed eschatology to divide them. Rather than attack each other’s views, we believe it would be far better to engage in a solid exegesis of the relevant scriptural passages. Honest study of the Word as it relates to each millennial view will help us understand and appreciate our own convictions as well as the beliefs of those who disagree with us” (“Agreement Is Not Required,” Christianity Today, 6 February 1987:13-1).
Taking up this challenge, editors Donald K. Campbell and Jeffrey L. Townsend and fourteen other evangelical scholars have pooled their exegetical skills to present a thorough yet positive presentation of premillennial interpretation. Covering both the Old and New Testaments, the writers present the best exegetical evidence for a premillennial approach to the Bible. As the editors observe in the preface, “This volume reflects some diversity among the advocates of premillennialism, but, given some subordinate differences, the authors unanimously concur that the biblical evidence clearly supports the premillennial interpretation of the Bible.... Each writer has attempted to show from the exegesis of pertinent texts that this is the teaching of the Word of God.” |
