Résumé : |
These two volumes on Genesis are the first volumes translated from the Dutch Korte Verklaring Der Heilige Schrift—the well-known and highly regarded commentary among Dutch-speaking students of Scripture around the world.
It represents the best in solid, conservative Dutch scholarship. The Korte Verklaring was designed as a commentary for the lay reader who does not have a knowledge of Hebrew and Greek or a detailed knowledge of critical questions. Il has admirably served this purpose and yet at the same time has been highly regarded and frequently used by scholars because of its exegetica! insights. The commentary begins with a lengthy and detailed General Introduction to the Pentateuch. Subjects discussed are the names, contents, and divisions of the books; and the question of their origin and date. Dr. Aalders continues with an Introduction to the Book of Genesis itself. Facts he discusses relate to the origin, the author, the historical background, and the original language. The most recent discoveries relating to the book are also introduced, and the theme is explained. We see the book in the light of how it came to be, thereby pointing to the personal faith of the author, and the time in which he lived. Following the Introduction there is a verse-by-verse explanation. The commentary is divided into sections and these sections follow a time period or an experience in the life of the persons in the Book of Genesis. The text is included with an exposition following. Where differences in translations occur these are also mentioned, so the reader gets a picture of how various interpretations have come to be. These volumes are filled with information and insight and are a valuable aid to any Bible student's library. |
