Résumé : |
Christian men and women belonging both to the Catholic and to the Protestant traditions are today working out something new: the idea of a religious community which inherits the peace and grace of the old monastic tradition, but which in rule and spirit meets twentieth century stirrings. These communities—all of them very practical and human, most of them small— flourish both in Britain and on the Continent of Europe. Some are homes of prayer and service, others scatter in the workaday world.
Dr Olive Wyon has paid careful visits to the most significant of these religious houses and movements: Iona, St Julian’s, Lee Abbey, Taizé and others less known. She tells their stories, interprets their aims and methods, and in many touches shows how deeply she is convinced that these places are living springs of renewal for British and European Christianity. Her book includes four pages of photographs. |
