Résumé : | Using Transactional Analysis (TA) as a frame of reference, and undertaking an ethical study of the prophet Jonah’s actions regarding his mission from God, the author portrays the prophet as a symbol of how and why Christian theology, doctrine and mission are one-sided and therefore incomplete. Christian theology and doctrine generally stress the nature, attributes, and works of God, especially as found in the Bible. God is presented as the Source of all creation, the Beginning and End who has no beginning and no end. The Bible and the teachings of Jesus also underscore human relationships as equally significant as the doctrine of God. By understanding Jonah’s behavior, the book contends Christian theology, doctrine and mission in their present forms, are limited in that element of human relationship that flows from our knowledge of God. Through Jonah’s series of games with God, we see ourselves sometimes avoiding God’s will for wholesome relationships. |
