“We believe ...in all things, visible and invisible”. How do we tie this statement, made by many people Sunday by Sunday, with an understanding of our world restricted to a measurable scientific analysis? We struggle to allow God in, let alone angels, demons, principalities and powers.
This collection of papers results from a group of scholars meeting in Cambridge to explore a theme which is tackled by very few modern theologians other than Moltmann. Two papers look at angels, whilst another two look at the heavenly realm. The area of demonology is looked at from a number of aspects: the Graeco-Roman world, African and Biblical perspectives, the charismatic movement and modern secularism. The final chapter presents a theological synthesis of all the preceding material relating the spirit world to the Father as Creator, the Son as Mediator, and the Spirit as the one who brings the consummation at the end. |
