Sex, death, freedom, matter, power: these are some of the mysteries in which the atheist places his faith. Father Gibson says that the atheist has explored these realities more honestly than religious men, who tend to refer all such questions to God.
Dialogue between theist and atheist is possible, says the author, only if each agrees that he has something important to learn from the other. This book is an attempt to promote such dialogue by examining sympathetically the beliefs of leading modern atheist writers. Quoting extensively from their writings, Father Gibson shows that atheists can compel believers to take creation seriously. He concludes by presenting a theist vision of reality which challenges atheists to take God seriously. |
