That’s the motto for Habitat for Humanity, Inc., in Americus, Georgia, which builds homes and communities for poor people, financing them through “The Economics of Jesus” —the sacrificial giving of money and labor by the comparatively rich to help those who are not. Founder and Executive Director of the four-year-old organization is Millard Fuller, a former millionaire businessman and lawyer who gave up his riches, went to Africa,and launched a housing project in Zaire. He and writer Diane Scott from Salem, New Jersey, tell in this book his inspiring story of the establishment of three more housing projects in Africa, another in Central America, and ten others in the United States. Each one testifies to the dedication and Christian love of thousands of supporters and volunteers from many denominations and countries—a love, says Fuller, that is mixed with the mortar in every building. |
