Résumé : |
Jesus Christ was truly God and truly Man — and as a man He was strictly of His time, brought up under social custom, within the confines of a religious home, He had brothers, friends, associates, and He labored with others as a carpenter. As such, He was influenced by the times in which He lived. He spoke and taught accordingly. Yet, it was said of Him: ' Never man spake like this man."
The object of this book is to picture the period and circumstances in which Christ lived so the reader can more fully see what passed at the time, enter into its ideas, become familiar with its habits, modes of thinking, its teaching and worship. It gives the reader not only a better understanding of many of the expressions and allusions in the New Testament, but also presents fresh evidence of the truth of history and new insight into the teachings of Jesus Christ in contrast to those of His contemporaries. This book takes the reader into the ordinary civil society of Palestine during Christ s time. It makes him mingle with the men and women of that period, see them in their homes and families, learn their habits and manners, and follow them in their ordinary life The work is that of a painstaking scholar, yet is presented in popular, readable style, and will make the words and events of the New Testament more significant, more colorful, and more deeply spiritual to every reader. |
