Who are the Knights of the Colombian Way ? Fermin, Manuel, Luiz, Hernan, Miguel; and they are representative of many more. Men such as these are to be found in almost every congregation in Colombia. For years they have hazarded their lives in the cause of Christ, daily risking violent death, and some have gained a martyr’s crown. In most cases they have very litle of this world’s goods and only a scanty education. They are more accustomed to the bare simplicity of mud floors than to the comfort of sitting-rooms, and to holding forth the Word of Life along the muddy mountain trails than to preaching from pulpits. They are essentially men of the mountains, and are seldom found walking down the main streets of the towns.
Their cloak is the ruana, indispensable to all country folk; their transport a mule or a hardy little horse accustomed to the mountain paths; their sword the Word of God; their mission to preach the Gospel throughout the land no matter how isolated the place. These men have an experience, a shrewdness, and an insight behind their rough manners, and their contribution to the spread and success of the Message cannot be measured by any human standards. There are women, too, as knightly in the service of Christ as are the men. One such is Rosana, a humble, hard-working woman whose intimate knowledge of God enables her to trust Him unquestioningly in the midst of fierce trials. These testimonies of ordinary men and women are a living demonstration of the power of God in lives that are fully yielded to Him. |
