Résumé : |
To what extent did Paul employ the sayings of Jesus in his ministry? Did he know very many of them ? Did he consider them authoritative? David Dungan carefully analyzes how Paul used two sayings of Jesus to regulate the life of early congregations. The two sayings are Jesus’ prohibition of divorce (1 Cor. 7:10) and his command concerning support for the apostles (1 Cor. 9:14).
Drawing on both redaction and form criticism, the author compares Paul’s version of each saying with the pertinent Synoptic material. In the case of these two sayings, Dr. Dungan concludes that Paul stands squarely within the tradition that led to the Synoptic Gospels. Students of the Bible and of the early church will discover much original thought in this young scholar’s first book. Through a study of two sayings, Dungan has filled in some of the gaps in our overall understanding of early congregations, of Paul’s relation to Jesus’ teachings, and of Jesus’ message itself. |
