Résumé : |
The Grace of Law is a timely book, written for a generation that has lost sight of moral standards, a generation to which "right" and "wrong" seem to have lost their meaning. Dr. Kevan has accurately subtitled this work "A Study in Puritan Theology." He shows that the Puritans, contrary to popular opinion, succeeded more than any other group of Christians in walking the razor's edge between legalism and antinomianism. Our Puritan forefathers thus rendered "a service to the Christian doctrine of sanctification which cannot be overestimated," and which Christians today cannot afford to ignore. Not only was Puritan doctrine "governed" by a deep reverence for the glory of God and complete submission to the exclusive authority of Scripture, but it was also very practical.
Dr. Kevan explores the Biblical teaching of the indispensable place of God's Law in the life of the Christian, and the spiritual character of the Law as God's gracious solution to our modern dilemma. The author proves that God's Law and God's grace are not enemies but rather allies in bringing men to repentance and faith and in leading them continually toward perfection in Christ. To those deeply concerned about the earnest, practical life of holiness that will please and glorify their Redeemer, this book will prove anew that God's Law is the Christian's delight, "sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb." |
