Résumé : |
Divine election is the subject of intense, ongoing debate. And, writes Alvin L. Baker, "Few recent theologians have been more responsible for increasing discussion about the doctrine of election than the eminent Dutch theologian Gerrit Cornelius Berkouwer."
A study of Berkouwer's view of election, this book gives special attention to his departure from the orthodox Reformed belief in God's comprehensive decree. While commending Berkouwer's emphasis that God is not arbitrary, that theology must be biblical and not speculative, that election ought to comfort rather than threaten the believer, and that assurance must be rooted in Christ, Dr. Baker argues cogently that Berkouwer has failed to do justice to several key teachings of Scripture pertaining to election, such as divine reprobation, the "before" of election, and God's sovereignty over all events. |
