Résumé : | Eckhard Schnabel traces the beginnings of Christianity in the second volume of Luke’s work. Luke relates how the new messianic movement emerging from Judaism comes to incorporate Gentiles as members of the community of God. He emphasizes (I) the work of God through the exalted Jesus, who grants the presence of the Holy Spirit; (2) the significance of Jesus as Israel’s Messiah and the Savior of the world, who directs the expansion of the church; (3) the work of the Holy Spirit as the transforming power of the new community of believers; (4) the identity of the church as the community of God, comprised of Jews and Gentiles; (5) the mission of the church whose leaders take the gospel to unreached cities and regions of the Roman Empire; (6) the historical events and persons who played a role in this expansion of Christianity. With attention to issues that apply to today’s church, this commentary offers pastors, students, and teachers a focused resource for reading, teaching, and preaching on Acts. |
