| Résumé : |
'Most geologists... consider Flood geology to be so preposterous as not to warrant a serious rebuttal’, writes Michael Johnson. But the vehemence with which the creationist case is being urged has led him to confront it at two levels. After describing the difficulties associated with interpreting Genesis 1-11, he shows how creationist views have recently come to the fore, explains the presuppositions and methods of orthodox geology, and presents a formidable critique of biblical ‘catastrophism’, which largely rejects these. He offers a brief treatment of the question of biological evolution.
The book closes with a substantial discussion of the relationship between the authority of the Bible and the way in which it is to be interpreted. An appendix is devoted to recent trends in evangelical thinking on this subject. |
