| Résumé : |
In Israel's Apostasy and Restoration some of the most respected evangelical Old Testament scholars honor their dean: R. K. Harrison. "A goal of this Festschrift," writes the editor, "is to break new ground in biblical scholarship." These twenty-four £ "innovative" essays focus on "central and peripheral aspects of Israel's apostasy and restoration in the light of prophetic thought."
Bruce Waltke clarifies the relation between God's oaths to Abraham and David and the obligations he imposed on Israel. William Dumbrell, after considering God's intentions for Israel, argues that the Sinai covenant is essentially unconditional. And Ronald Youngblood demonstrates that Hebrew prophecy provides the source for the basic themes of Hebrew apocalyptic literature. John Oswalt refutes the notion that Israel borrowed religious concepts from neighboring religions, while William LaSor examines the causes for the apostasy of Israel's kings and its people. C. Hassell Bullock investigates the prominent role of the priests after the exile and their relationship to the kings and - the prophets. John Watts identifies the prophetic portrayal of Babylonian idolatry and probes the way it affected the social and economic system. Eugene Merrill to contends that interpreters of the prophetic writings must look not only to the exodus for motifs of Israel's return but also to the pilgrimage and procession concepts. And Douglas Stuart discusses how the monarchy—the expected form of government during the restoration— will administer social and political justice. |
