Whereas his book Marketplace Preaching provides a practical methodology for preaching, this book provides the background philosophy of preaching. Miller says, “The sermon cannot eliminate life’s complexity, but it should bear up under that complexity, pointing, at least, to a healing simplicity. No sermon can answer every heartache, but every sermon should be a cry of hope.” Miller believes the sermon is the transforming Word offered from pulpits to change the world.
